Last night the clock showed 3:07 a.m. , when i had just finished with my painting , but i was drowsy enough to type. So i postponed the idea of posting this blog for today. Its festival week in the country, Deepawali, while i am sipping my hazelnut cappuccino reclining on the davenport, unlike rest of my family busy travelling through the jam-packed roads and noisy streets . I have this bad habit of working under pressure or a deadline ,hence the current painting came to life as a result of my participation to Jaipur ART Summit 2015.
I wonder how i end up painting a woman's face in every single painting , a face that demands freedom, or has questions and not to forget those eyes in fear. All these emotions and thoughts don't build up in a day , they are engraved in my subconscious and in my life. I have grown up in the heart of our country , Delhi and still i live a life that's filled with anger resulting from gender inequality issues . I am blessed with a goodlife and I have a supportive family to let me free enough and paint my heart out. But how do i change the people out there on the streets and every corner of the country, not only that but across the world. I will not just sit and waste my life , i'll do my bit of work to frame a world of equality.
Here i am with this painting, i hope you also connect to it the way i do. I had started working on this 36inch X 36'' Canvas from 28th october 2015, and these ideas are just not spontaneous, but they keep jumping into my brain every now and then.
First i made a nine box grid on the canvas to make my painting more precise, every painter has their own way of starting some work and that's my way. Then i searched for some old woman faces on google to practice 5-6 free hand sketches and study to understand how an old face looks like . Finally, when i was confident enough to draw i took a yellow ocher color pencil and started drawing a face.
The Title Twilight Fantasy, is a satire to this educated world where even the oldest women are unsafe , seeing their wrinkled old faces and expecting the people outside to change and give them an equally safe and wise stance in society, the way it is for men . The beauty fades, generations change but what remains unchanged is this inequality. I WANT A FEARLESS LIFE FOR EVERY GIRL CHILD , FOR EVERY WOMAN, even for any other human being not biased to women only. And I am not begging for it , its a right to each one of us, RIGHT TO LIFE.
